A concept from the mind of Rory Scholl, ARTPROV combines creativity from varying disciplines into one big show. Music, painting and improv comedy came together at The Tank – the result? Hilarity, good times and a new 16″X20″ painting by yours truly.
Rory tells the audience who I am, and what I am doing there. I hold a beer to establish artistic credibility. After the jump, photos recapping the improv inspired by my paintings, while I paint a new painting, based on the improv skits based on my paintings.
First up: Neil’s Coffee Shop.
Rory directs the Creative Outlets – Greg, Ann , Jeff and Deb, who are about to embark upon a merger between two shops; one serving coffee, the other, tea.
Charlie The Tax Man takes the stage and Rory declares, “Don’t worry, this skit won’t be about politics, because I don’t even know who he is.”
There I am, painting away on the side. A special thank you to my beautiful girlfriend Erin Hessel for taking the pictures!
Jeff and Ann find a flair for the dramatic under the watchful eye of Charlie.
Sometimes, things just get weird.
And now the Woolworth Building takes center stage, with an incredibly long title.
Distraction Painting Number One in the house.
Mixing paint, almost pressing my hat against the wet canvas.
Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges from SS+K inspire the next scene, about bridge building, advertising and recovering from being buried alive.
And sure enough, I am still painting.
The Creative Outlets plug into hilarity.
Go brush.
The final 10 minute musical scene is inspired by my recent Chicago painting, and the tale of a Navy Seals celebrity Manny living in a carriage house named Conor.
Say what you must, but somebody is going to punch through this fireplace and teach a kid how to be a man.
Ho, ho, the show is done and so is the painting. Rory shows off the goods to the audience (not pictured.)
Rory and me met during our first NYC comedy show at Stand Up New York, and have been trying to find a way to collaborate over the years – ARPROV is the answer.
Here it is, my painting, inspired by the music and improv comedy, inspired by my paintings – as Rory said, “A circle of life sort of thing.” Stay tuned for future ARTPROV shows.
