Painting Process | NY POST, US Weekly, Brad, Angie and the Gang

The New York Post + US Weekly + Acrylic Paint + Californication + Dexter = Christmas Painting Collage. As always, a traditional Borbay Christmas consists of the important ingredients as listed in the mathematical equation above. After the jump, my stream of conscious collage painting.

The Pope in the foreground, my Mom in the background – the beginning.

Adding more headlines, rotating the canvas to collage from every angle – no particular purpose or system.

Filling the picture with words and politicians of various sizes.

A fully collaged surface, ready for painting. There is something I find so visually appealing about the NY Post Masthead, one I often recreate.

The first masthead added with a deep raspberry tone. By the way, had no idea there was a “p” in the word Raspberry.

A Carolina Blue NY Post in honor of my cousins down south.

Another green Post masthead added to the equation.

Here comes the US Weekly clippings – Jake, Angie, Oprah, Barack, Zach, Sarah, Michelle and Hugh – all here for the holidays.

Redrawing and creating outlines, modifying the color palette – as the clock crept towards midnight, the canvas began to look like it was colored with highlighters.

Doesn’t this color scheme bring you back to your days of studying?

Getting right close to the finish – pushing the tonal balances with red-on-red.

And the final Christmas Canvas, signed sealed and delivered. Happy Holidays!
