OPEN LETTER TO WOODY JOHNSON OF THE NEW YORK JETS
MARCH 22, 2010 | NEW YORK, NY
FROM THE DESK OF BORBAY
Dear Woody Johnson,
As a 29-year-old, long-suffering New York sports fan trifecta loser (Jets, Islanders, Mets) – I have avoided the urge of conversion to the winners circle (Giants, Rangers, Yankees) based on my Manhattan address. Last year, when the Jets made the against-all-odds run in the playoffs, I thought to myself – this is the beginning of something big. Well, as an avid reader of the New York Post, which I use in all of my collage-paintings, I was more than disappointed to see the Jets backing down from opening day so easily… You have the team to to beat, and this new football experience being created in the Meadowlands is JETS Stadium.
So here’s the rub. I am an up-and-coming artist and Jets fan, living in Manhattan. You want this stadium to be known as the home of the Jets? Here is your chance. Commission me to create a 4X5 foot painting of the stadium, in Jets green, featuring the Jets, and I will do it on location – tweeting every stroke. Don’t hope for ownership of the stadium branding – take it. This is your opportunity to put an artistic stamp on the building, and hey, if you were to give a free limited-edition print of this artistic task to your loyal, hard-paying fans, you might sell some more PSL’s.
Here for financial negotiations and artistic inspiration. A long-suffering, hopeful Jets fan, ready for some Fireman-Ed justice in 2011 and beyond. Hell, if he brings it again, you can even let Rex hang it in his office.
Best,
