For the past five days, I have been in Providence celebrating the life with paint, a 2.9 mile fun run (“fun” used loosely for yours truly) and, for sure, a few cocktails. It was a delight to catch up with my good pal Paul Ryan (pictured above)… after the jump, a recap of a long weekend.
Things got off to an interesting start with a 2.9 mile cross country run in honor of Kristen. My gut beat me across the line in 24:36, only two seconds faster than my best five mile time.
Former D1 runner in a fat suit.
Paul and I showing some Gorilla love to the terrific artist, Jimmy Danko. You will notice the striking resemblance to a classic film, Twins.
Before you begin to paint, it is important to put Rhode Island’s Best Hot Weiners in your mouth.
Paul, Jen, Ben, Megan, Derek, Arturo, Liam and me set up on the waterfront for beers. Once Paul and I were finished bench pressing small automobiles in the parking lot, we decided to paint this factory.
Starting a quick painting on an 8″X10″ canvas.
More important than the progress, is the cameo snap of Super Trooper Ben-Jam-In.
Paul begins his masterpiece on brown sketchbook paper, which was made out of recycled sketchbooks of Impressionist masters and used-up Sesame Street coloring books.
Take your factories and make them stack.
Paul frequently snaps brushes with his incredible strength.
The sun sets, but…
Down to the final details, Ben watches attentively, wondering if the highways of Vermont are safe without him.
A phenomenal iPhone photo of Pauls sweet drawing/painting. Not pictured? The final black border he applied with his fingers.
Serious(ly good looking.)
A quick snap of the final 8″X10″ plein air. After this, we went out once again, arriving back home a few ticks before sunrise. The result?
Phil! You’re partied out man, again.
The disgruntled RISD‘er’s sometimes like to express themselves on the sides of trucks. Art is Shit. Artist Ish. Ish Artist.
Paul, me, and Larry McGuttenstein in front of a wall mural completed by little known artist, Andy Warhol.
Paul hard at work at our impromptu art station.
Good from all angles, really.
My painting from this session, a shout to Diddy’s annual White Party. Oh, Sean, can you please email my invitation this year? I am unlisted, of course.

Thanks for sharing this tribute to KME.
Borbay has to be the coolest guy I know.
What’s it going to take to get you to come visit me and my wife in Ithaca? Could surely do some wicked painting up here with all the gorges and waterfalls or some rustic old Americana towns and homes.
