Upon returning from my leg break, I’ve been playing mostly goalie (for now). That said, the same question kept coming up – “how can you, an artist, not have a painted goalie mask?”
Fair point, so I decided to slap my mug on my dome. This wasn’t a traditional, sand the surface, airbrush, spray fix job. Rather, it was a quick, paint brush, paint brush fix situation. Either way, the result makes sense for my goalie style – strange hybrid. After the jump, more angles of my mask job.
When I was a kid, everyone on my block played roller hockey and I painted just about every goalie mask in town. It was my first business venture; I must have done about 20 Richters, a bunch of Beezers, Brodeurs, Belfours and dozens of custom jobs.
A top view with the dangler added. For those non-hockey folks, the dangler is a piece of Plexiglas goalies attach to their mask to protect the jugular. After the following Malarchuk situation, this became an important piece of gear (video is quite graphic):
Ouch. My throat hurts.
Side view, the text says, “I will bribe ref”. It’s important to share your lack of scruples early on in the game, it may just help you buy a win.
“Tits Save” and “I’d rather be scoring” – no explanation necessary.
And the front view. The only thing making this helmet more kickass is when my stupid head is jammed up in there. This paint job is 4-0, including a playoff win last night. Ah, D6 beer league.
