I can never resist a good challenge, particularly when it comes to NYC. After reading a call for I ♥ NY submissions on The New York Times, I hit the shop. Photoshop.
Since I paint to capture New York, I thought it was time for Gotham to capture my paintings. Dutch doors.
As it happens, Milton Glaser – the original designer of the I Love NY logo, also submitted two designs. It’s like attending your own look alike competition. My submission reads:
“Stenciled from my paintings created on-location — the “I” is the Woolworth Building at night from 7WTC, the “Heart” is the view from Time Out New York’s West Side HQ, the “N” is the 59th Street Apple Store from 5th Avenue, and the “Y” is The Guggenheim – also from 5th Avenue.”
Check out Gawkers version of the competition, risque and quite entertaining. My piece is in the comments. Isn’t that just Gawker? It’s in the comments.
Update: My design received honorable mention on Gawker, under the title: Postcard Perfect. Ironically, the prize was for a Christoph Niemann book… we were both interviewed on Valerie’s New York during the same show.
