Thinking Out Loud: 99 Problems and Picking Portrait Subjects is One

Jay Z on Fanpop

Jay Z: Changing your name for art, while giving your former/current self a shout? Yes.

Saying, “I got 99 problems but a bitch ain’t one” is about a drug-sniffing police dog; then writing, “haters, haters, these niggas is haters!” and having lunch with the first African American President? Check. Cranking out albums that come on like crack, drop trend like heroin and come roaring back as coke in 2008? True.

That’s Jay Z. And I do believe I will paint his portrait. A series without a name or a number. Organic. Other potential subjects: Steve Prefontaine, Woody Allen, Kanye West, Mark Zuckerberg, David Lynch, Alex Ovechkin, Andy Warhol, Larry Gagosian, Hunter S. Thompson…

Borbay Self Portrait

It’s winter, a perfect time to paint people. Now, the question is who* (this said “whom”, but Michael provided the correction, thank you sir), and what is the connection?
