Painting Process | Old Bay by Borbay Painting Process | Comments
A good idea is a good idea, so when George Malley suggested I paint the Old Bay Seasoning can, I was all about it. It took one copy of the Baltimore Sun sent from Maryland and almost a year, but the painting is now complete. For these tastebuds, Old Bay is like candy, enhancing the flavor of anything it touches. Visually, I set out to create this excitement, bursting forth from its origin — the timeless packaging showcased in the primary triad of red, yellow and blue. 59th Street Apple Store Cubed Being Torn Down… For Good? General Action | Comments
Breaking News! The 59th Street Apple Store Cube is currently being taken down for "renovations". The cube, which I painted last summer, may never be exactly the same. The entire process was captured on this campaign site. Here is a photo from The Gothamist: This is definitely one of the most exciting/interesting aspects of painting on-location; you never know what will be here today, and gone tomorrow. My ESPN Zone painting was completed only months before the Times Square Location was closed forever.

A few years back, I was strolling along Madison Avenue when I happened upon an "up-scale" thrift store. There, perched high upon the wall was Blue Marilyn by Andy Warhol — a 25.5"X25.25" reproduction shimmering in the low light. After no small amount of negotiations, $125 later I found myself with a fake Andy tucked under my arm, but six blocks from his old townhouse on Lex and 89th. Over the past two years, as my painting career developed, this print migrated from front-and-center in the living room, to the bedroom, and finally to a stack of canvases in the corner. ...

Our Broadway Bares adventure began when Ari Lankin painted an impromptu tatoo on the arm of a Kriss Angel dancer in front of the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign. They suggested we paint live at Broadway Bares Las Vegas, which we did, at Planet Hollywood. A few weeks back, Ari received a call requesting the live-painting action for the fittingly named "Broadway Bares XXI: Masterpiece" at the Roseland Ballroom on Father's Day (the Vegas installment was on Easter Sunday). Larchmont-Mamaroneck Patch, “Larchmont Flag House Rendered by Professional Location Artist” General Action | Comments
The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Patch wrote a terrific piece on my current series of commissioned architectural portraits of the Hoffman "Flag House" Estate in Larchmont. Writer Max Frankel stopped by while I was setting up for painting number two, and we had the opportunity to chat on the deck about the project in length. Courtesy of The Silicon Alley Insider, my new favorite advertisement. The Alamo Draft House has exploited a valuable paradigm in the digital age: if you put it out there, it can and will be used. This girl, clearly in training to be a fine ex-wife, may just present a fascinating lawsuit. Is a complaint call made to customer service considered fair use content?
