Now I’m a Dad

Coraline Frances Borbet

On July 28th, 2013, at 9:45PM, Coraline Frances Borbet came into this world. She was born at home under the flicker of candle light. It was the greatest moment of my life, which, I’m fortunate to report, has already been filled with joy.

Erin and Coraline

In the Woody Allen movie Shadows and Fog, John Malkovich’s character says, “A family? That’s death to the artist.” The specter of this notion loomed in my mind over the years… until I met Erin. In our wedding vows, we promised to make each others dreams come true… we’ve done that emotionally, spiritually, professionally… and there is no greater expression of love than a child.

Coraline Working Out

The moment Coraline was born, she was put on Erin’s chest… Erin was leaning on me… I put my finger out, Coraline grabbed it and opened her eyes, breathing softly and comfortably. As any Dad out there can tell you, that first look melts your heart.

When she arrived, it was as if I opened my eyes and the entire world was different. More vibrant. Sweeter smelling.

My little model, already getting her poses down. We’ve had such an outpouring of love and support from family and friends. We are blessed, I love her so much and can’t wait to see her grow.

More painting updates to follow, the new studio is set-up, and I’m in the late stages of a commission. For now? It’s all about Coraline and Erin.
