My Bahamian painting adventure as Art Exuma‘s first Artist-In-Residence continues with ‘Mindscape Exuma Blue’. The sky and water are so polarizing in The Bahamas, they became a must-paint.

My Grand Isle Resort studio — locked and loaded with a fresh 20″X20″ canvas.

Drawing the Mindscape free of association. There is, however, a horizon point in this composition… something I wanted to use as the point where the water and sky meet.

Orange wash, of course… that’s how I do.

Beginning with a gradient in the sky. I love seeing the orange poke through… but, alas, it’s something I would eventually paint out.

Sipping some apple juice Glenlivet, rocking my SimplyBuilt T.

Warmth as the sun sets over Great Exuma.

Water. Sky. Time to tackle the undulating form… you’re right, it does look like a scorpion.

Penetrating the water with a cubist splash.

I wanted to create a subtle sense of distance with an undulating gradient.

Right close here… but after a careful look, I realized I must paint the entire canvas one more time.

Adding a reflection strike-point… it felt right.

Water re-painted… forms in the water going through a second round of color.

The light came through the window ever so beautifully…

And, completed. The Exuma Blues, captured in Mindscape. I’m excited to jump into my next Bahamian canvas… more to come.
