Painting of Santana’s on Little Exuma, The Bahamas

Santanas Exuma Painting by Borbay

Santanas Exuma Painting by BorbayIntroducing my final Art Exuma painting — the world famous Santana’s Grill Pit, located on Little Exuma. After Erin drove across the island to have lunch here with Jeanne, my Mother-In-Law, she returned letting me know this was a spot to paint. She was, as she often is, 100% on the money.

Here is my glorious set-up. The plan was this — Tom and I would head over to Santana’s, start a painting, grab lunch, then drive over to school and pick up Coraline.

Drawing a Mindscape in the foreground. Alas… this silver hat, which made it through Vegas and years in NY, perished on a boat trip, lost forever at sea. In my heart, I hope someone finds and rocks the old girl for years to come.

Here’s the point at which I had to stop… there were sharks in the water.

Back in the studio, getting down to it, painting alongside Tom, watching Trailer Park Boys.

The trees felt right from the start… the angular beach area afforded me some color play.

Ah, the shadows… a catalyst of contrast.

While this deck gradient would eventually find itself buried, I enjoyed painting it.

Now, it’s time to define smaller areas… starting with the blue house.

Jumping around, sharpening details… the umbrella, a table, the small fence.

Once I got into the structure of Santana’s itself… I realized a few colors required a punch. Also, instead of painting the wires from that bendy pole, I decided on slight color shifts in the sky.

Here she is, Santana’s, 14″X18″ of Exuma goodness, captured in acrylic paint, on canvas.

Here is the beautiful Santana’s painting created by Tom Hessel… as always, we had a blast sharing a studio.
