Cowboy Bar Marquee Neon Painting by Borbay

My very first Jackson Hole inspired canvas featured The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar… on Saturday, I revisited this familiar image, in extreme close-up, at Four Seasons Jackson Hole!

Check the entire process in one minute, soundtrack courtesy of MH the Verb (and co). Added bonus? A very special freeze-frame smooch…

Let’s duckface it, I love my new summer hat.

Wide angle of the set-up… as you can see, I painted the sky, shadows and green “Cowboy Bar” letters first.

The great thing about neons — the underlying letters can look a bit wonky, and it won’t compromise the overall effect. Lettering on an arch within a cowboy? Not easy. Here, I nailed down the extreme reds and oranges…

I then began with the green around the letters, faded to near black, then back into the red. The effect hit the mark… the underlying glow was established.

At this point, adding the tubes is a pleasure… almost like a gift, really.

And boom! There you have it… the Cowboy Bar Marquee, painted and signed. Thank you to everyone who stopped by,  my lady, her gal pals, Ed and Monica (who suggested the signature location, and appeared in the video). Until next week!
