“I’m gonna drop the Gugg in front of the Tetons, and live paint the eclipse at 9,095′ in Jackson Hole.” Wait, what?

Yes, the 9th painting in my 20-year-series traded in 5th avenue for a ski resort…  and friend, it was glorious!

Enjoy the process in one minute… featuring total darkness during the eclipse, with a soundtrack from The Rotaries.

Things kicked off in my Victor studio, located at a reasonable 6,230 feet. Black wash, sky, outlines.

Allowing some indulgence, I instantly dug into the mountains with four, mysterious blue tones…

The next part… painting the foundation of an eclipse-darkened Guggenheim, in purples and blues.

I spent one evening live-painting this piece at Four Seasons Jackson Hole… not one of the 13-paintings created during my artist residency.

As for the eclipse, I had the pleasure of live-painting this amazing moment atop Piste, at Four Seasons private viewing party. Here I am, pictured with my brother Tim.

As the eclipse neared, temperatures dropped… so Tim dropped some hot jacket fashion.

Ushered in as the years, the eclipse greeted us slowly with blinding quickness.

So I busted out an eclipse-glasses sketch of the light.

And began capturing the phenomena, while this gentleman rocked the best eclipse outfit of all time.  Not pictured… a lovely 7-year-old artist/apprentice, whose piece was acquired by this starry reveler.

Close… but needed more work.

So I brought this baby back to my studio… adding a series of rainbow light pads, which I instantly painted over. Too much for one composition.

But I found the right direction, and completed my 9th Guggenheim with eclipsy goodness. What will my half-way-point painting look like? No idea… which is precisely why this series exists.
