Here is where the canvas left-off after day one. With the entire surface covered, the process begins to slow down as the details begin to materialize.
Day’s two and three were a blast. I was privy to a delicious slice of cake from Billy’s in honor of Sean’s one year BEVFORCE anniversary. My good friend and fellow artist Ari Lankin stopped by (and took some photos of yours truly); artist, actor and activist Justin Christopher from ACE took me out for a bite, I received a mention in the TriBeCa Citizen – and will be meeting with their editor today.
After the jump, days two and three – a work in progress.
Yesterday, I began a commissioned painting for the CEO and Founder of BEVFORCE. The image? A full-frontal of the TriBeCa Grand Hotel on a 48″X60″ canvas. One of my favorite places to grab a cocktail, The TriBeCa Grand is all about ambiance…
Therefore, I decided I had to use both day and night-time images to faithfully capture the experience.
After the jump, one long day of work, stroke-by-stroke on this new commissioned canvas.
The Museum of Modern’s P.S.1. Gallery has created a sweet new showcase for artists to share the interior of their studio, as well as a handful of their creations. Never one to miss out on the fun, I have added my space for your viewing pleasure. For collectors, there is no more enjoyable way to meet an artist, get a feel for their process and snap up a favorite before the prices and availability get out of hand.
What are you waiting for? Schedule a studio visit today. In fact, if you act now, you will receive a complimentary cup of coffee, a hand-written note and an artsy photographic portrait taken by the artist… all for just three easy payments of $19.99. But wait, there’s more! If you schedule within the next three hours (as seen by the countdown clock on this screen which will forever be counting down for three hours and re-setting), you will have some Irish in your coffee, a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie and not one, but two hi-fives. Schedule today before it’s too late.
Any guy will tell you, meeting the father of your significant other can be a moment of great anxiety. Will you have something in common? Will you get along? Will he like you, or grab the shotgun and growl, “stay away from my daughter?”
Fortunately for yours truly, beyond a mutual love for Erin (my girl, his daughter), a quick rapport and mutual enjoyment of scotch, Tom Hessel and I share another love – art. After showing me around his Minnesota-based studio, I immediately realized Tom’s work required a far more significant audience. Therefore, I asked him to put together some images and information about his life and journey as an artist – which I will weave throughout this post.
You can mouse over each picture for the works title, and dimensions. After the jump, find out more about Tom Hessel, his painting, silverpoint and photography.
Adding The FWA (Favourite Website Awards) Site of the Day banner to a site is the interactive advertising agency equivalent of winning an Emmy. For the past ten years, Rob Ford has spent his days (and nights) building an awards showcase which has become not only an industry taste-maker; but a benchmark for client satisfaction and a career building distinction. During my tenure at Fi, each hard-earned FWA Award was merit for a company-wide celebration.
I left the digital advertising world to paint and share my work through social media. With the painting of this digital staple – life has come full circle. The internet has spread my name and work, and now I have captured a piece of the internet on canvas.
From the desk of Rob Ford:
“I had no idea what to expect from this painting but all I did know, especially after seeing some very impressive paintings from you on other subjects already, was that it would be unique and original. Without a shadow of doubt, you have created a true masterpiece here and I am delighted and also staggered by the end result.
As you know, The FWA is a project that has evolved over many years and it’s been great to see this painting evolve too, as I have been watching it grow via your twitter feed… most exciting it has been too! On March 1 2010 the existing FWA website will close and disappear off the face of the web so it gives me great heart to know that you have captured the real essence of the site and now we shall be able to proudly display your painting in The FWA office as a historical mark and point of reference.
I do believe that we shall be able to offer the painting as a digital wallpaper download as well so that fans of FWA can have this across their screens. I am totally blown away and thank you immensely for capturing something very special and close to my heart in such an unforgettable way! Borbay +1 ”

Another Thursday night, another ARTPROV at the Tank. The brainchild of Rory Scholl, co-founder of the Creative Outlets, ARTPROV is a meeting of the creative minds. With the talented Eric March tickling the digital ivory’s, the Creative Outlets improvise scenes based on six pieces of art – by the artist, creating art, on location. As always, it was a pleasure to take part. Thank you to everyone who came out to watch!
