Coming up next in my dope actors kicking ass in monster roles: Daniel Day Lewis as Bill The Butcher in Gangs of New York. When I first saw this movie back in college, I instantly became obsessed with DDL’s performance. So intense.

Here is the photograph of the still from the movie — this is an important reveal scene, where the Butcher sees Dicaprio for the first time as he emerges from a fire saving a pal. Incidentally, Leo’s “friend” Johnny (played by Henry Thomas), is the same exact back-stabbing wimpy character he played in Suicide Kings (Avery).
Daniel Day joins Pitt and Depp.

Mickey O’Pitt.

Hunter S. Depp.

Last night, I had the pleasure of joining a truly talented group to pay tribute to a wonderful charity: HopeForThem. Musicians, artists, St Germain and a crack team joined forces at Gallery 151 to provide entertainment, raise money and gather toys for the children of Haiti.
This 20″X20″ live painting, which is set for auction, represents my contribution.
Here is the video process… coming up next, a few photos along the way.

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays! Just a brief note to let you know — if you were considering ringing in the holidays and/or new year with a Borbay original, the best time to make an acquisition would be now. I’m heading overseas with my stunning bride the day after Christmas, and I don’t get back until mid-January.
If you have any questions about the acquisition process, please feel free to reference this page. As for available works, please see my painting gallery (anything marked available is in play). Drop me a line with any questions or requests you may have. More to come prior to my departure, including a third painting in my new series, as well as my year-in-review.
Enjoy your holidays, and each other.
P.S. — if you are interested in buying some art, but you are looking for something different, I highly recommend the following artists:
Jeremy Penn
Paul Zepeda
Ari Lankin
Ryan Seslow
Ted Mikulski
Lora Sanders
Socky Chop
Steve Parker
Mike Serafino
Sacha Baumann

Introducing piece number two in my kick-ass actors in sweet movies I love series: Brad Pitt as Mickey O’Neil, from Guy Ritchie’s Snatch. This still was taken from the scene where Turkish and Tommy the Tit make a bet with Mickey (right about 2:15 in) over hare coursing. Sadly for the boxing promoters, the hare is not proper fucked.
Get your painting process on to the dope beats created by Nelson Downend, Jr. and Ahmed Mahmoud… aka the Ambershift.

After a snap of the TV Screen, I took the image into my computer and made it look like this. A pallor is important to properly portray pikey.

Coming up next, in what is becoming my “actors in movies I love being bad-ass and, thus far, all wearing hats” series — Brad Pitt in Snatch.

Here is the cropped-to-frame, digitally altered image which will serve as the composition. Mr. Pitt — aka, Pikey Pitt (and yes, I realize “Pikey” is a naughty word, but in the context of the film, it works, so it too shall work in the context of this painting) will be the second piece in this series.

Pitt joins Depp in Fear and Loathing. Stand by for the emergence of this new painting.

If I am in the studio painting, I’m watching movies — all day long. One of my all-time favorites is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas… as it happens, so I decided to capture both Johnny Depp and Hunter S. Thompson as one. Both of these creative gents have brought me a great deal of enjoyment, so I figured why not ride this strange torpedo out to the end?
The voice over is a bit much, no?

This was my source image. It is a digitally altered still from the movie which was photographed on my TV. After the jump, it gets serious.

Fellow artist and Iona College Professor, Ryan Seslow (pictured with artist Paul Zepeda) was kind enough to feature yours truly in an artist profile. Incidentally, the picture above is apropos, as I met both of these gentlemen through Twitter. We are now friends, colleagues and collaborators in real life. So, you heard it here first 5,469th = it’s cool to make friends through Twitter.
In fact, Seslow and I will be showing together at Iona College this January. A formal announcement will go out soon, but here’s a sneak peak of the event postcard (thank you Madalyn Barbero Jordan.)

Here’s looking forward to showing with Mr. Seslow — appreciate the profile my man.

If watching the same movie 100 times a year indicates brain damage, color me cracked. One of my favorite all-time book/movie combinations is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Since I watch movies all day as I paint, I felt it was time to make the connection on canvas. Short story long, I’m capturing two gents I greatly admire and respect: Johnny Depp and Hunter S. Thompson, in one image. Above is the photo I took of the movie, paused, slightly skewed on my 40″ Samsung.

Here is the cropped-to-frame, Photoshop edited source image for the painting. It will be in my standard, ripped-from-Warhol square canvas format. Stand by on Twitter for some updates, and perhaps even a live UStream session. This painting will be shown at my two man show with Ryan Seslow this coming January at Iona College (details to come).

It’s Cyber Monday, and you may find yourself ready to pull-the-trigger on something; perhaps many things. This year, why not skip the recommendations and give your loved one the gift that keeps on giving — original art.
Here are a few pieces and artists I respect, admire, and in many instances — collect.
Art. No software updates. No malware. Big upside.
