On Thursday, February 16th, at 6:30PM, both myself and artist Ryan Seslow will be providing a walk-through of our show: “Street Legal – Gratiffyti: Seslow & Borbay on Canvas“, at The Brother Kenneth Chapman Gallery Iona College Arts Center.
Our exhibition was recently covered by the Ionian, here is a taste:
“What at first glance appears to be another exhibit dedicated to street art becomes much more complex at further examination. Both Borbay and Seslow not only show themselves as artists but also as individuals in their artwork.”
Please feel free to click the link above for the entire review. Here’s hoping to see you on Thursday.
If you are up for art on the 16th, but aren’t into leaving the city, check out Ari Lankin’s exhibition at StumbleUpon‘s HQ downtown.
Just heard from Ari, his show is pushed back a week, so focus your energy on Metro North. Happy Friday!

And without further adieu: the final piece on the Larchmont series: Berry’s Favorite Place.
Here is a video of the process.

This painting is different in many ways, beginning with the source image. It is a composite of three photographs: one taken from Berry’s perspective; a second taken by yours truly to fill in details; and a third, also taken by Berry, of her house in black-and-white, which was placed to the right of the pool in Photoshop.
After the jump, a hybrid collage painting process.

After there was Bangkok, there was (in order) Ko Samui, Koh Phangan and Shanghai. Here is my recap of honeymoon… part two. It’s all about rainy streets, strange sketches, hooker propositions, cocktails, heads-on-a-pike, Jazz bars and throwin’ signs.

The day after Christmas, we packed our bags and flew to Bangkok for our belated honeymoon. It was a luscious four week excursion. I did things unprecedented in my adult life… I read seven books without interruption. Sat on the beach. Worked very little.
Here is my recap of Bangkok… some art, graffiti (not mine), Thai boys, booze, tales, statues, gold, roof decks and a whole lot more.

While Joe Flacco and Tom Brady were busy exchanging sacked lunches, Ryan Seslow and yours truly were hosting the opening reception for “Street Legal – Gratiffyti: Seslow & Borbay on Canvas” at Iona College. The opening was a smashing success, thanks to Iona College, Madalyn Barbero and the entire team.

My lovely wife and me in front of Mr. Pitt. After the jump, more photos by Greg McMahon from Sunday’s opening.

This Sunday, January 22nd, from 1:00-3:00 PM, “Street Legal – Gratiffyti: Seslow & Borbay on Canvas” will open at Iona College. Taking place at the The Brother Kenneth Chapman Gallery Iona College Arts Center, this exhibit will explore a NYC inspired street style, on canvas, with a focus on portraiture.

My self portrait anchors the wall opposite the entrance. This piece was completed in January 2010, and stylistically set the compass for the ensuing two years.
Read on for a preview of the show, thoughts from yours truly and Seslow, and at the bottom — directions on how to get to the gallery.

Continuing the nerdery from 2010…
Here are some 2011 Borbay.com stats to start 2012, courtesy of Facebook’s arch nemesis — Google.

2011 began true and proper with HOV… a work of art, a Warhol (already). He was both the first of my #KingsOfHipHop, and the first painting of the year.
Looking back, 2010 kicked-off with a flavor of Vegas, and 2009 was about the actual jump from ad-man to artist.

Jay-Z got a nice little shout from The Source, a terrific start to year filled with outstanding press coverage.

While Jay was in process, I was also working on a commission of Citi Field… at night.

Night paintings are always exceedingly difficult, but I had a blast with this one — now in the Garrick collection.
After the jump, the rest of 2011…. be prepared, it’s a long and winding road.

4 of 4. Here is my commission for Advertising Week… it ended up in four magazines as a full page ad, and was animated in an ad that played in taxi’s across the city.
