And without further adieu: the final piece on the Larchmont series: Berry's Favorite Place. Here is a video of the process. This painting is different in many ways, beginning with the source image. It is a composite of three photographs: one taken from Berry's perspective; a second taken by yours truly to fill in details; and a third, also taken by Berry, of her house in black-and-white, which was placed to the right of the pool in Photoshop. Here is the second painting in my Larchmont, New York commissioned series for the wonderful Hoffman family. This particular 24"X30" canvas is painted from the perspective of sitting in the hot tub... and is aptly entitled, "Laura's Favorite Place". This is view from sitting in the tub... which served as the central perspective point. This is Laura's favorite place, so I wanted to capture the views at magic hour. Did you say process video? The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Patch wrote a terrific piece on my current series of commissioned architectural portraits of the Hoffman "Flag House" Estate in Larchmont. Writer Max Frankel stopped by while I was setting up for painting number two, and we had the opportunity to chat on the deck about the project in length. Here is a sample of the article, please do click-through to see the piece in its entirety: "Hoffman describes Borbay’s work as “Warholesque”—perhaps for his pop culture influence—except with more “continuity and optimism.”"
