Borbay in Ko Samui, Koh Phangan and Shanghai, A Honeymoon Tale, Part Two

Peace Hotel Shanghai Lobby by Borbay

After there was Bangkok, there was (in order) Ko Samui, Koh Phangan and Shanghai. Here is my recap of honeymoon… part two. It’s all about rainy streets, strange sketches, hooker propositions, cocktails, heads-on-a-pike, Jazz bars and throwin’ signs.

It rained for three days straight in Ko Samui, so that meant much to draw, much to drink.

This temple struck my fancy.

So I painted it with india ink… which I purchased in NYC incidentally.

Delicious cocktails from our bartender, who was nice, but had a ridiculous cough.

Head on a pike, as promised. It’s advertising hair braiding, but I see it as a somewhat hostile gesture.

It was our honeymoon.

Abstract Borbay

Felt like doing something abstract, so I did.

For some reason, I thought it was Koh Samui… so I had a laugh at this misspelled sign — turns out the laugh was on me.

Sweeping while on the phone. The amount of piracy of name brands in Thailand is staggering.

Day four of rain wearing on me… so I painted how I felt.

If you listen closely you can hear Big Pussy talking to Tony.

There are stray dogs all over Thailand. It’s pretty crazy. But they are chill, so you can crouch down and throw a flash in their face with no worries.

My favorite picture of the trip, a fake bird, in a bath, in front of a creepy laughing stone kid.

3, 2, 1 — Shanghai!

If I was a kid, and my Mom put me on this, I’d probably cry for a little while, then ask for ice cream.

Their Marketing Director gave me permission to create this little number.

My lady looking sassy in the Swatch Art Peace Hotel gallery space… I applied for their residency program.

Feeling bullish? An abstract recreation of the Wall Street Bull (not the Bund) in downtown Shanghai.

I made this drawing after I was propositioned by a working girl in front of my wife on the streets of Shanghai… on my honeymoon. The back of the post-card recalls the story, hence the weird reference.

Slick streets of Shanghai.
