In August, I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with local landowner and thespian, Harrison Ford, at the Murie Ranch for the Spirit of Conservation Awards. My contribution was a commissioned, original painting — which was live auctioned by Larry Flynn to benefit the merged Teton Science Schools and Murie Center. Added bonus? Coraline is now a student at Teton Science.
If you’d like to see the entire work come together in one minute… check this time lapse.

Warm underpainting…. detailed drawing… indicating the shadows with small x’s.

First, I wanted to paint in the sky… it would later be repainted.

Brown out… speaking of, I was watching It’s Always Sunny while painting…

Shadows first… went with some pinkish hues in the sign… these would later be converted to orange.

Oh, yes, there is the orange I was talking about. Before getting color specific, I painted in the neon tubing throughout in the same tone.

Beginning to nail down the neons and work on the cowboy.

Ah, yes, the bulbs… the payoff pitch… what its all about. Couldn’t wait to get electric… now, all that remains? A repainted sky, wood detailing and one more pass on the lights.

And voila. My second painting of the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar! Thank you David, for your generous bid… I hope you love living with your new original Borbay painting. Finally, here’s a shout to Hannah, Laurel, Patrick, Teton Science Schools, the Murie Center, Harrison Ford and everyone involved in this wonderful community.

Oh… and here he is, chilling with Antler and Bar Fedora — both of which will be on display in Manhattan for the Accessible Art Fair, opening at The National Arts Club on November 1st.

And for kicks… the original Cowboy Bar painting… which currently resides in Manhattan (cheers Mike!)

No weekly updates. Simply a message, every month or two... updates on life, creativity, and the journey that began on July 2, 2009. Let's be in touch, as the first leg of my quest reaches completion in 2026. From a studio in my 600-foot Upper East Side apartment living room, to a museum collection. Oh, but friend, that is just the beginning. The road is long, and I am looking for cool, sophisticated company to navigate each challenging turn.
