Here’s an epic shout from my boy Bubbles — the brain-power of Sunnyvale on Trailer Park Boys!
When I painted this portrait of Mike Smith as Bubbles — I did it because I loved Trailer Park Boys. Imagine my surprise, when it sold immediately. Then, getting connected with Mike Smith, and having Bubbles show the love? Fuhgeddaboudit.
Over the years, I’ve dreamed of a cameo on TPB. The idea? Bubbles invites me to paint at Sunnyvale after seeing his portrait. I get to work. Ricky spots me doing a painting of his car, smashes my easel and yells, “get the fuck out of Sunnyvale, you painterly dick.”
Bubbles intervenes, “Ricky, don’t fuck with Borbay, he’s deecent. I showed you the painting he did of me, with Steve French and the Spaceman — remember?”
Then we cut to Ricky doing a confessional, “I don’t see the big fuckin’ deal. I have my own painting show, so Borbay can fuck right off.” Looking off screen, “smokes, let’s go!”
Cut back to the melee, Julian joins the fray. “Ricky, calm the fuck down. I think we can do something with this. Borbay, what do these sell for bud?”
“Oh, between $15-25k American.”
Julian rubs his chin, looks at the guys, and says, “Shit, boys, we can sell these, and use it to clean our dope money. Say, Bubbs, could you build a hollow frame to fill with hash?”
Bubbles, “I don’t know Julian, does Shitrock purrr to Helix?” Then, in a lower voice, “Shitrock always purrs to Helix.”
And so, we embark on our Sunnyvale adventure… and, if it never happens, we’ll always have the dope Bubbles animated shout on Insta — thanks bud!
Oh, and if you haven’t seen the Animated Series on Netflix — get your ass over there, it’s deeeheeeheeecent!

Another newsletter? You got that right. I'll honor and respect your inbox, as if it were my own. I endeavor to share everything happening at Borbay Studios & Gallery. No daily updates. No weekly updates. Simply a message, every month or two... updates on life, creativity, and the journey that began on July 2, 2009. Let's be in touch, as the first leg of my quest reaches completion in 2026. From a studio in my 600-foot Upper East Side apartment living room, to a museum collection. Oh, but friend, that is just the beginning. The road is long, and I am looking for cool, sophisticated company to navigate each challenging turn.
